Emerging now from the dark month of January... loss of income + Film screening + family visiting (just in time to catch the show, no less!) and now I'm finally on the road back to some semblance of normality... several results, good and not so much:

1. my family DID finally see my bizarre film and DID NOT disown me, which was always a possibility...

2. Finally back at work now, on my roommate's high-budget self-fincanced(?) short film. working 4PM to 4Am everyday in a century-old paint factory in downtown LA... not the easiest gig, but it beats unemployment and i just may get to keep my car!

3. the theatrical run for Prometheus went modestly well for the week, not really breakthrough or anything and not enough to make our distributor happy... making him furtherly depressed is the slow business it's doing as far as video pre-sales and attention. WANT TO HELP?

YOU CAN:

***visit the film's page on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Prometheus-Triumphant-Fugue-Key-Flesh/dp/B001NH4CIU/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1234384407&sr=8-1

***just VISITING on it will help (Netflix looks at how much traffic the video gets as a way to figure out how many dvd's to order, I.E. 20 or 1000...

***OR you can take a second while on Amazon and write a review, if you've been fortunate enough to see the film!

***OR, if you're feeling really saintly, you can, of course, PRE-ORDER the film using Amazon's secure server, and it will ship to you on March 10th!

***any other ways you want to help indie cinema, or at least our little nook of it, you ask?

***if you have NETFLIX, you can "SAVE" the video. again, something they pay attention to.

***if you're on FACEBOOK, you can become a fan of the PROMETHEUS TRIUMPHANT group!

***and of course, you can forward the info to any of your friends that you think would appreciate our little endeavor!

thanks everyone... sorry to use this as a self-promotion shill, but the pressure's on!

---

4. in other news, have some interest in a next project.... hopefully to shoot this March... more on that when I can.

EVERYONE have a happy Valentine's Day!

-Jim

alright, everybody... i hope you enjoyed your respite from hearing me babble about my film, because it's all over now and you better prepare for some Prometheus innundation!

We've got a screening set up at the Laemlle Grande Theater in Downtown LA starting Friday, January 23rd and running through Thursday, January 29th. The DVD is set for National release March 10th...

so instead of doing the same old boring old notices about the film's theatrical screening and DVD release, we thought we'd produce some more entertaining (depending on your definition of "entertaining") web blogs to bring in some attention:

ENTER DR.
I'm back.

It's been a long strange month or two...

It'll be easier if I just make a list:

#1. Things were a bit stressful as far as the theatrical run & DVD distribution of Prometheus... we had a mad rush to get cover art done (you spend four years on a film and you have to re-do the cover overnight... typical) so here it is:

I'm happy with it, considering we had to get something done in no time when we didn't have the original actress anymore, or most of the costumes, or the locations... mostly I'm just happy I didn't have to design it myself.

The theatrical run is scheduled for January 23rd through the 29th at the Laemmle Grande Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. 9 shows. If that goes well as far as attendance then we get to do San Francisco, Chicago, maybe a few other cities. I never imagined Prometheus actually having a theatrical screening... it's pretty exciting...

#2. I've been back in production, working on the set crew of a sitcom that shall remain nameless at this point so as to not taint my outsider credibility. Suffice to say that while all this craziness is going on, it's more-or-less allowing me to survive. Only problem is that it's ending in January and I will soon find myself unemployed... again. Hopefully something will come up.

and, C. I'm hoping to go back to Pittsburgh and produce at least one if not two features in 2009. We need a very small amount of backing to do this, so we're investigating the possibilities... anyone who can turn us on to any rich dentists that want to be a film producer for a couple hundred bucks will get a special gift, we promise!

That's it. Everyone have a safe Turkey Holiday.

okay, the good news is that Prometheus Triumphant is going to be distributed by Cinema Epoch:

www.cinemaepoch.com

-purveyors of such edgy arthouse pieces as 'Tokyo Decadence' and Takeshi Miike's 'Demon Pond', among others..! this means our lil' arty piece will be available at Best Buy, Virgin Megastore, through Netflix, even (perhaps) your local Blockbuster!

and they're going to book us for a week at the Grande Theatre in downtown LA in November... which means you're all going to be getting emails and posts galore about screenings..... again.....

but we really are very very excited about this, as it opens up many doors of opportunity for us... not the least being that CE is interested in an idea for a future film that i 'accidentally' pitched, and think they might be able to help us get it made! the bleak future is looking a tad bit pinker.

so yeah, things are good... hope everyone's day is groovy!

where to begin?

1. The premiere went FANTASTIC... seeing our film on a 70' screen and hearing Lucien's freakin' AMAZING score in DTS sound is an experience i won't soon forget... nor the incredibly enthusiastic responce the film received from the crowd... so things are in motion now, distribution possibilities and the chance of some select screenings around the country... I don't want to go too into it and jinx it just yet, but stay tuned... (in the meantime if you just can't wait you can buy our little film here: http://www.filmbaby.com/films/3202 )

Which however leads me to:

2. As some of you may know, a few months ago i was very close to deciding to head back for Pgh, to rejoin with my Mad Monkey co-conspiritors, and give this town the flying finger on the way East... i felt beat down, like i was spinning my wheels in a town i don't particularly love, and very far away from many people i care about and enjoy being around and a city that i feel very much a part of. (yeah, dangling prepositions are my speciality, what about it?)

Well, for various reasons professional and personal, i've now decided my best bet is to stay put here in sleazy LA for the non... isn't that typical? As soon as i'd decided that Hollywood was really no place to be a filmmaker (yes, i have that slogan trademarked, but you can borrow it as long as i get due credit),the damn town gave me a few reasons to stick around... so anyway, for the forseable future i think i'm stuck in the sunshine state... (CA is the sunshine state, isn't it? or is that Florida..? Whatever... Fuck fuckin' sunshine, anyway...)

3. I don't really have anything for #3, but when you list things, it seems like you should have more than two, doesn't it?

everyone have a goddamn great sunday!

--yo-jimbo

so i was uploading all the information from PROMETHEUS up onto IMDB now that we have a public show... they definitely DO NOT make it easy... there are hoops upon hoops to jump through... but i think i got it done...

in doing it, you list your name under all appropriate credits for the film, in this case i'm adding credits to my resume including Director, Writer, Actor, and Producer (up until now i thought my only credit on IMDB was as miscelleneous crew on REBA and PLAYING CHICKEN, under the moniker JIM TOWNS(1).

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2693408/

as i'm doing this i keep seeing this OTHER jim towns (JIM TOWNS (2))... one who apparently has worked in animation... for some reason it took me forever to figger out i have a SECOND listing thanks to the Cartoon Network people not realizing i was already on there...

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2987827/

just think: a complete alternate identity just handed to me... what to do with this free gift? what devious plans it inspires...

instead i'll be trying to figure out a way to unify these two disparate elements of my fractured persona...

the big question being is this interesting to anybody but me? probably not.

g'night.

okay, so anybody and everybody within trekking distance of LA, CA... please listen up! Prometheus Triumphant, that 4-years-in-the-making Silent German Expressionist opus of mine is screening at the Egyptian Theatre as part of their Horror/Fantasy/SciFi festival on SATURDAY AUGUST 16th at 5 PM... on a double bill with... wait for it... DEMENTIA 13, of all things! we'll hopefully be able to do a little Q&A, or at least an intro t prepare everyone that comes for the strangely macabre spectacle they're about to witness...

i'm totally revved up about this...

more info to come.

so many crazy things... i feel like i should have that chase music from Benny Hill playing on a loop throughout my day...

-that wacky film noir webisode thing i've been posting about is getting pitched to Sci Fi channel... now i don't get my hopes up about things like this anymore, been crushed too many times, but given the kind of stuff they produce... this might just happen... we'll see... i've got a failsafe plan if it doesn't...

-Prometheus Triumphant will be showing at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood in August as part of their SciFi/Horror series... this is important, as it will get us on IMDB.com, as a film, and with our respective titles... in this industry, your IMDB listing is like your resume... right now mine only has my production assistant work, which doesn't exactly open doors...

-getting ready to shoot a short film as part of an anthology DVD that MMP is planning on putting out later this year... this would be our first commercially released video, and might pave the way for future projects... we're getting the other ones we've shot through the post-production pipeline... our great friend Lucien is scoring an old serial killer one where i torture people by driving nails into their bodies... good fun!

-and possibly weirdest of all, i got drafted to teach two weeks of storyboarding and screenwriting for teenage summer classes in El Camino, Ca... strange is this world and our lives on it...

-my cannibal feature is stuck in the mud. i can't even bear to talk about it right now... the whole experience has been beyond painful.

wow. that's a lot...
the art of spinning plates...

...crazy times and wonderous things abounding these days... progress continues apace on the "Dead End City" webisode... i have to confess that my positive attitude towards what we're accomplishing is marred a bit by the director/producer's persistant need to alter (read: ruin) everything i write just enough so that it fits his cosmology for the project... but this is something i've grown more or less accustomed to as a writer-for-hire... you cannot be precious with your words, as they will most certainly be bastardized to the n'th degree for no discernabe reason... logic does NOT enter into the equation...

what else? i seem to finally be coming out the other side from this sickness thing that totally shillelaghed me the last fortnight... although a dull stabbing pain still persists somewhere under my sternum... on the right side... can't tell if it's a muscle i pulled coughing up copius amounts of phlegm, or something else... in these cases i usually trust my body to heal itself, which it's usually pretty good at, and hope for the best! we'll see...

Mad Monkey Productions is slated to shoot our second feature the third week of (yes, the WEEK... one week) of June in glorius Pittsburgh, PA... it's going to be a very gritty, intense and (hopefully!) disturbingly erotic tale about two female serial killers in love... still in the early pre-production stages here, but we do have a sexy test shot for your greedy little eyes!

...other than that, the new news is i'm actually getting an agent to help me get acting work around town... strictly bit part background shit... i have no illusions of becoming wealthy and succesful based on MY looks and acting chops.. but i really need the extra cash as the day job, while glamorous to others, isn't all it seems, especially on payday...

and that about wraps it up, kiddies... one final note... i'll be shooting a music video in a few weeks for composer/musician extrordinaire Lucien Desar, featuring the lovely Bianca Barnett in which she'll most likely be clothed in not much more than a gauzian blur! stay tuned!

out.
